Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar is accused of turning away a wheelchair youth basketball team.

The company that owns Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar in Murfreesboro has agreed to pay the families of a disabled youth basketball team, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Middle District of Tennessee.

The families of the Birmingham-based Lakeshore Foundation team said they were told they presented a fire hazard when the team of seven players and their families visited the restaurant while in town for a tournament.

The alleged incident happened in February.

Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Middle District of Tennessee announced an agreement was reached with Good Times Restaurant, Inc. to resolve allegations that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

As part of the settlement, Good Times has agreed to pay eight families a sum of $34,000 each, and a civil penalty of $80,000. That’s a total settlement payment of $352,000.

The agreement also requires Good Times to adopt new ADA compliance measures, including new policies at its restaurants and ADA compliance training for its employees.

“Children using wheelchairs should be able to eat at restaurants just like anybody else,” said United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis.
