Out and About: Factsheets on Laws that Protect People with Disabilities

The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Promoting Interventions for Community Living (RRTC/PICL) publishes a factsheet series called Out and About: Laws that Protect People with Disabilities. Topics include: Air Carrier Access Act; Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000; Americans with Disabilities Act; 2010 Standards for Accessible Design; Fair Housing Act; Olmstead U.S. Supreme Court Decision; Affordable Care Act; Help America Vote Act.

Each factsheet includes an overview of the law, what and whom it covers, and resources to learn more or to find assistance. Each factsheet also includes a scenario where a person with a disability uses their knowledge of the law to advocate for themselves to address an issue or concern. One more fact sheet in the series focuses on finding social support for community participation. Each factsheet is available online in PDF format with other formats are available upon request.
