Description:

This 90-minute Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST (FHAF) training offers a detailed examination of Specification A Bathrooms under Requirement 7 of the Fair Housing Act. Participants will learn the technical criteria for maneuvering space and clear floor space at toilets, lavatories, tubs, and showers, along with key design considerations that influence fixture placement and usability. The session explains how Specification A differs from other FHA bathroom layouts and highlights common design challenges that arise in new construction. Practical examples and graphics help clarify how to plan compliant bathrooms that meet both functional and dimensional requirements.

An accessibility subject matter expert (SME), Eric Contreras, will be available during the dedicated Q&A portion to answer design and construction accessibility questions.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  •  identify the technical requirements to design FHA-compliant Specification A Bathrooms,
  •  identify the history and protections of the Fair Housing Act (FHA),
  •  understand the importance of selecting the appropriate bathroom design,
  •  identify the technical specifications to design Specification A Bathrooms,
  •  identify the maneuvering space features required in Specification A Bathrooms,
  •  identify the clear floor space required for toilet fixtures,
  •  identify the clear floor space required for lavatories,
  •  identify the clear floor space required for bathtubs,
  •  identify the clear floor space required for showers,
  •  identify the technical specifications for powder rooms,
  •  and recognize strategies to increase bathroom accessibility.

  •  a download of all webinar materials in the participant workbook

Each attendee who attends for 45 minutes or longer will receive a certificate of attendance. Certificates are also available for passing the final quiz.

The 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM (Eastern Time) training session includes ASL interpreters.
