Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST Training Event
DATE: Tuesday, August 19, 2025
TIME: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM (Eastern Time) – OR – 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM (Eastern Time)
Description:
This 90-minute training provides a broad overview of the Fair Housing Act (FHA) and other key disability rights laws influencing accessible housing design. Participants will gain clarity on how multiple standards may apply to the same property type and explore the roles of various enforcement authorities, the scope of covered dwellings, and who must comply with the FHA. The session also addresses the types of disability discrimination prohibited under the law, possible penalties for noncompliance, and the technical accessibility requirements that apply. In addition, participants will learn about other federal protections, including how HUD-approved Safe Harbors relate to compliance. Join us to deepen your understanding of the legal framework that supports accessible housing and the resources available to assist you.
During the Q&A part of the training, accessibility expert Eric Contreras will answer your questions about the Fair Housing Act, Fair Housing Act Design Manual, Safe Harbor, and other accessibility issues live.
