Most workplace accommodations are made by employers and employees themselves, without input from [assistive technology] AT or vocational rehabilitation professionals.
The Workplace Accommodation Expert Support System (Work ACCESS). is a tool that employers and employees with disabilities can use together to make informed decisions about workplace accommodations. The tool asks users questions about their abilities and the access problems they are trying and provides suggestions for assistive technology or strategies that might help. This session will demonstrate Work ACCESS, discuss its unique features and potential applications, and describe the development of the tool.
Finally, although originally developed for employers, Work ACCESS has the potential to be a useful tool for providers of rehabilitation services. We will introduce a new project to evaluate the tool for use within the vocational rehabilitation system as part of the new Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Accommodations, Employment Supports, and Success for People with Physical Disabilities (ACCESS-PD RRTC).
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Credits for Rehabilitation Counseling (CRCs) will be provided to attendees who wish to receive them.
