ADA National Network Learning Session: The Basics of Health Care and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that provides for equal opportunity and access. This webinar will help health care providers understand their responsibilities under the ADA. We will cover the three basic areas: 1) facility access including: physical access to the building and exam rooms and accessible medical equipment; 2) effective communication with patients with disabilities; and 3) modification of programs, policies, and procedures.
Learning objectives:
- Identify areas in which physical accessibility is required.
- Understand the obligation for effective communication under the ADA for health care providers.
- Learn the variety of ways to modify programs, policies and procedures to provide accessible health care services.
Presenters:
Jerri Davison is the Director of the Pacific ADA Center located in Concord, CA and a member of the Health Care subcommittee of the ADA National Network.
Ann Deschamps is the Director of the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center located in Rockville, MD and a member of the Health Care subcommittee of the ADA National Network.
Emily Shuman is the Director of the Rocky Mountain ADA Center located in Colorado Springs, CO, and a member of the Health Care subcommittee of the ADA National Network.
Katie Warden is the Director of the Northwest ADA Center based in Seattle, WA, and a member of the Health Care subcommittee of the ADA National Network.
Pam Williamson is the Assistant Director of the Southeast ADA Center located in Atlanta, GA, and the chair of the Health Care subcommittee of the ADA National Network.
