Description: Nurses spend more time with patients with disabilities than most other health care providers, yet they are not often trained on evidence-based practices for caring for this patient population. In this webinar, Dr. Erin Vinoski Thomas will describe a newly developed training for nursing students intended to improve their knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and best practices for providing disability-competent care.

Learning Objectives:

• At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
• Define disability-competent care in the context of the nursing profession.
• Explain how the Nursing Guide to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) training was developed and pilot tested.
• Describe how to access the training.

Presenter:

Dr. Erin Vinoski Thomas is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy & Behavioral Sciences and the Director of the Center for Leadership in Disability (CLD), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, at Georgia State University. She has led CLD’s work as the Georgia Affiliate for the Southeast ADA Center since 2021.
