Supporting people to make choices is a priority for person-centered systems. Too often people with disabilities are appointed guardians. When people have guardians, their ability to make choices may be significantly constrained in the name of keeping them safe.\nThis webinar will explore how disability systems are expanding alternatives to guardianship, such as supported decision-making where people choose supporters to help them make important decisions in their lives. Current efforts across the country and internationally to implement supported decision-making and other alternatives provide an historic opportunity to help people take control of their lives.\nIn this webinar, national experts, state representatives, advocates, and people with lived experience of disability from Colorado, Georgia, and Wisconsin, will outline strategies for systems and a new NCAPPS resource to expand supported decision making so that more people can benefit from these alternatives to guardianship.\nNCAPPS webinars include ASL interpretation and live captions in both English and Spanish. If you require any additional accommodations, please contact Saska Rajcevic (srajcevic@hsri.org). Please note that some accommodation requests made less than one week before an event may not be possible.\nResource:\nHow to Expand Supported Decision-Making and Increase Informed Choices [PDF] ( https://ncapps.acl.gov/docs/Resources/How%20to%20Expand%20Supported%20Decision-Making%20and%20Increase%20Informed%20Choices%20(1).pdf )\nLink: https://ncapps.acl.gov/docs/Resources/How%20to%20Expand%20Supported%20Decision-Making%20and%20Increase%20Informed%20Choices%20(1).pdf\nThe National Center on Advancing Person-Centered Practices and Systems ( https://ncapps.acl.gov/home.html ) (NCAPPS) assists states agencies, tribes, and territories to advance person-centered thinking and practices to support people with disabilities and older adults with long-term service and support needs. All NCAPPS webinars will be recorded and archived at ncapps.acl.gov/webinars.html ( https://ncapps.acl.gov/webinars.html ).\n
