SUMMARY:Infrastructure Is People: How Libraries Are Redefining Digital Accessibility from the Inside Out
DESCRIPTION:Accessible Technology Webinar Series\nDate and Time: Thursday, July 16, 2026 | 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Eastern Time | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM Eastern Time.\nSponsored by the Great Lakes ADA Center and the ADA National Network (ADANN). For help, contact Great Lakes ADA Center: 1-877-232-1990 (Voice/TTY) or email webinars@adaconferences.org ( mailto:webinars@adaconferences.org ).\nRegister for the Zoom Webinar ( https://www.accessibilityonline.org/ada-tech/session/?id=111228 ).\nDescription:\nLibraries are increasingly positioned as the hub of institutional digital accessibility work — but infrastructure without investment in people is merely compliance theater. This session traces how the University of Virginia Library is building a distributed accessibility ecosystem anchored not in tools and technical standards, but in the humans who sustain them. Using the UVA Library Digital Accessibility Working Group (DAWG) as a case study, participants will explore what it looks like to treat training and capacity building as strategic decisions, not afterthoughts, leaving with a framework for building sustainable accessibility infrastructure.\nIndividuals will be able to submit questions for the speaker in advance during the registration process.\nHuman Generated Real-Time Captioning will be provided for this session.\nContinuing Education Credit Available: Certificate of Attendance: 1.5 Credit hours; ADA Coordinator Certification: 1.5 Credit hours.\nSpeaker:\n\nMartina Svyantek, Digital Accessibility Specialist, University of Virginia Library ( https://www.accessibilityonline.org/speakers/speaker.aspx?id=11183&ret=Infrastructure%20Is%20People:%20How%20Libraries%20Are%20Redefining%20Digital%20Accessibility%20from%20the%20Inside%20Out )\n\n
