Description:

Register now for this Training Opportunity. Topic: Job Accommodations - Provide reasonable accommodations to employees or applicants for employment who are qualified individuals with disabilities. (Titles I and II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990)

Reasonable Accommodations:

  • making facilities accessible
  • modifying work schedules or equipment
  • changing training materials or policies
  • providing qualified readers/interpreters
  • modifying job application process to enable qualified applicants with disabilities to be considered for the position

Hiring Incentive - (Section 190 of the Internal Revenue Code) Maximum tax deduction of $15,000 per year

Expenditures -- Amount of Credit Claimed
Used by business of any size to remove architectural/transportation barriers (must comply with applicable accessibility standards) Deduction = Total Tax credit (up to $5,000) used to help small businesses cover ADA-related eligible access expenditures (Section 44 of the Internal Revenue Code in 1990). Business with revenues ≤ $1,000,000 OR ≤ 30 full-time workers may use for hiring readers for customers/employees with visual disabilities and hiring sign language interpreters, adaptive equipment, accessible formats of printed materials (Braille, large print, audio tape, etc...), removal of architectural barriers in facilities or vehicles, and fees for consulting services. Tax Credit (none for first $250 of expenditures) = 50% of Access Expenditures in a year.
