Transportation Research Board Releases Airport Wayfinding Report
October 31, 2017
Source: Open Doors Organization
A new report, ACRP Report 177: Enhancing Airport Wayfinding for Aging Travelers and Persons with Disabilities, was published by the Transportation Research Board on October 20. Not only is a copy of the full report available free for download but there are also two Word documents that airports can use as tools in self-evaluation of their facilities and wayfinding apps. The first document is the 30-page Wayfinding Accessibility Audit Checklist, created primarily by the Open Doors Organization, which is organized by journey segment and covers ADA requirements, wayfinding/signage, and other features to enable independent travel. The second tool is the Application Review Criteria, based on the principles of Universal Design and used by Arora Engineers to evaluate airport wayfinding apps for the report. A PowerPoint presentation is also available.
